Community Wellness

Groups, Activities and Volunteering

The community and volunteers project aims to help residents build more positive connections, improve their health and wellbeing and take part in giving to their local community on the Isle of Dogs. We work in collaboration with volunteers, staff from the wellness team and local organisations to build a healthier community who are more connected on the Isle of Dogs.

We work with our community to create and design groups and activities that help promote positive health and wellbeing and we partner with local organisations who provide us with a spaces and resources. These groups can cover anything from walking, gardening, cooking or are for people who experience specific health issues.

Why don’t you consider being a Healthy Island Volunteer? There are different types of roles available so you can give as much or as little time you have to spare. We only ask that you stay with us for at least 6 months to benefit fully from your experience. It can be a rewarding way to boost your skills, meet new people and can open up new job opportunities.

Nickie Tundervary

Volunteer Co-ordinator

My role as a Volunteer co-ordinator is to help residents on the Isle of Dogs feel more connected by the groups and activities that we set up together. I’m also there for anyone who is interested in building their confidence through volunteering or would like to give back to their community by lending their skills. I work alongside my colleagues in the wellness team and the GP practices to give access to anyone who is interested in being more active and connected in their local community. I’m usually around the Island in community spaces or in the 4 practices if you’d like any information about this project or you can simply write to me by filling out the contact form.
